A complete Montessori education provides your child with an integrated, individualized, and academically challenging program that meets his/her changing developmental needs from year to year. We recognise that childhood happens once. A Montessori education ensures that your child will make the best of his/her experience.

In addition to the high standard of Montessori education that our school has established we offer a number of programs and services that supplement our core curriculum.

School Garden

Feeling a little hungry? In keeping with the central importance of ecology and genuine outdoor experince to the Montessori curriculum, our children and parent helpers have created a vegetable garden which all children participate in caring for. This coming year we are developing a native species garden and may be introducing mason bees and ladybugs to our little ecosystem. We incorporate workshops on composting and plant care into the on-going construction of our garden sites.

After School/ Holiday Camps

Our Physical Education teacher, Dave McMurchy-Barber, leads a fun filled, independently run, sports program aimed at developing fitness, confidence and new friendships. At present the program runs from dismissal after school to 4:45 pm Monday to Friday. Extended hours of care are available upon request. Dave also runs camps during major holidays. Brochures are available at the school.

Fund-Raising

Fund raising for charity and our city's needy is an important part of the V.M.S. vision. With the initiative of our students our community has participated in various events to realise this goal. Together we have contributed to:

  • The Vancouver Food Bank
  • Red Cross campaigns for Tsunami Relief; African Relief
  • Downtown Eastside Women's Shelter
  • Senior's Groups
  • UNICEF
  • Terry Fox Run
  • Art for the BC Cancer Agency

The children have participated in bake sales, book and toy sales and craft fairs to raise funds for both their classrooms and charity.

Parent Volunteers

Vancouver Montessori School greatly appreciates the help we receive from parents, be it for classroom needs (laundry, flowers and snack donations, and field trip driving) and as Parent Parking Committee volunteers. The Parent Committee is involved in many events that raise funds to enhance the children's experience at school, such as Montessori materials, supplies, computer upgrades and most recently our community garden project, just to name a few.
